Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains Update: Jindal Stainless has announced its crucial role in the development of the Vande Bharat sleeper trains by supplying high-strength, tempered 301L grade austenitic stainless steel. Designed for overnight journeys, these new trains aim to revolutionize long-distance rail travel in India.
Features and Benefits
- Advanced Steel: The 301L grade austenitic stainless steel used in these coaches offers enhanced performance and durability. It’s known for its corrosion resistance, which ensures long-term reliability and lower life-cycle costs.
- Safety Enhancements: The tempered stainless steel improves passenger safety with superior crash and fire resistance properties.
- Weight Reduction: This steel helps reduce the weight of each coach by approximately 2 tonnes. The reduction contributes to better energy efficiency and a lower carbon footprint, aligning with modern sustainability goals.
- Comfort and Speed: Capable of reaching speeds up to 160 km/h, the Vande Bharat sleeper train features 16 coaches, including 11 AC three-tier, four AC two-tier, and one AC first-class, totaling 823 passenger berths. The trains are designed to blend comfort with advanced technology, enhancing the travel experience.
Project Milestones
- Prototype Unveiling: The prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper coaches was recently unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
- Launch Timeline: The first batch of these coaches is scheduled for dispatch later this month, with an official launch expected by the end of 2024.
