India’s top military commanders gathered aboard the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant to observe joint exercises involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The visit marked a step in efforts to integrate operations across the three services.
Lieutenant General Johnson P Mathew, Lieutenant General N S Raja Subramani, Vice Admiral K Swaminathan, Air Marshal S P Dharkar, and Lieutenant General Ajay Kumar boarded the carrier off India’s west coast on January 30.
They observed the joint phase of TROPEX 25, a military exercise designed to enhance coordination between the services. The visit provided senior officers with insights into naval operations and inter-service cooperation.
Air Marshal Dharkar arrived in a MiG-29K trainer aircraft. The flight highlighted efforts to integrate air and naval operations.
Officers spent the night at sea, observing joint operations as part of TROPEX 25 and AMPHEX, another military exercise focused on amphibious warfare.
The exercises included simulated air strikes, anti-submarine drills, and amphibious landings.
Officers also attended a closed-door briefing in the carrier’s war room, where commanders reviewed operational tactics and discussed future coordination between the services.
