A case has been filed against a doctor in Kerala for obstructing the movement of an ambulance carrying a critical patient. The doctor was also fined Rs 5,000 over the incident that took place on January 16 in Kannur district’s Thalassery area.
According to the police, the ambulance was headed to a hospital via Nayanar Road when a car blocked its passage despite repeated sirens urging the vehicle to give way.
The car was driven by Rahul Raj, a doctor who operates a private clinic in Iritty.
The ambulance driver, who filed a complaint with the Kathirur police, alleged that the obstruction delayed the ambulance’s journey and posed a risk to the patient’s life.
In response to the complaint, the police registered a case against Rahul Raj under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of blocking the path of an emergency vehicle.
In addition to the police case, the Motor Vehicles Department imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the doctor for his actions.
