Donald Trump was sworn in as the US President succeeding Joe Biden during a grand inauguration event at the Capitol in Washington
As Donald Trump assumed office as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm wishes to his “dear friend” and expressed his eagerness to work together moving forward.
Trump was sworn in as the President succeeding Joe Biden during a grand inauguration event at the US Capitol in Washington which saw several dignitaries, including former presidents, billionaire entrepreneurs and others.
“Congratulations my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump on your historic inauguration as the 47th President of the United States! I look forward to working closely together once again, to benefit both our countries and to shape a better future for the world. Best wishes for a successful term ahead,” said PM Modi in an X post.

Representing India, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar attended Trump’s inaugural event. He also carried a letter from Prime Minister Modi for the new US president Donald Trump.
“Privileged to represent India as External Affairs Minister and Special Envoy of PM at the Swearing-In Ceremony of the 47th President of the United States of America today in Washington DC,” Jaishankar said in a post on X.
‘Golden Age Of America Begins Now’
Addressing the inauguration ceremony at the US Capitol, US President Donald Trump said “America’s golden age” began on Monday as he made a return to the White House. He said that the “decay of America” came to an end with his ascent to the Oval Office.
“Our top priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous and free. America will soon be greater, stronger and far more exceptional than ever before. I return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the start of a new thrilling era of national success,” the Republican leader said.
He also announced a slew of measures he will take concerning immigration. He said he will impose a national emergency at the US-Mexico border and will send troops and more manpower along the border, owing to the tense situation.
