Two young men have been arrested for allegedly killing their 17-year-old friend by slitting his throat after a dispute over an amount of Rs 5,000 in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, police said on Sunday.
The matter came to light after the body of the teen identified as Nauman was found in an abandoned government community hall, which was in dilapidated condition, in Meerut’s Khushal Nagar area. Following that, the police started their investigation and the accused duo, Suhail and Aamir, were arrested after a manhunt.
Police found a trail of blood emanating from the victim’s head with pieces of brick lying near his body. Police suspect that the accused may have slit Nauman’s throat with a sharp weapon after first smashing him in the head from behind.
According to police, the three friends were drug addicts and had a fight over an amount of Rs 5,000 while they were consuming the banned substance in the abandoned community hall. The matter soon escalated into a heated scuffle, following which Nauman was killed.
“After receiving the information about the incident from locals, the police reached the spot, took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem”, Meerut City SP Ayush Vikram said.
Both the accused were arrested after some time and an interrogation was launched, during which the duo confessed to their crime, SP Vikram added.
It is also being investigated whether the deceased is an adult or a minor, he said. Further investigation into the matter has been launched.
