IPL 2023: According to the head coach of the Delhi Capitals, the surface has never been a 190-plus total track.

Ricky Ponting, the head coach of the Delhi Capitals, criticised his team’s “poor fielding and bowling” following their 50-run defeat to the Lucknow Super Giants in the opening game of the IPL 2023.
They received more opportunities than they probably should have, to be completely honest. We didn’t, in my opinion, assist ourselves today in the field. Our defence was really shoddy after the first four overs, Ponting told the press following the game.
“A few opportunities were lost due to a few misfields. Myers had an opportunity, and he took full advantage of it,” the speaker said.
The left-handed Barbados player Kyle Myers (73), who was brought in to replace South African starter Quinton De Kock, made the Capitals pay dearly for dropping him at 14 when he blazed his way to a 28-ball fifty.
“He (Myers) cashed in, and he immediately began to assault. He engaged with our spinning. It taught us a valuable lesson. We are aware that being knowledgeable in the area is essential; you cannot afford to throw away opportunities, and if you do, you must anticipate that they will make you pay, said Ponting. The surface was never a 190-plus overall track, according to the head coach of the Delhi Capitals.
“I believe we gave up 16 sixes, and that indicates that we were significantly off with our bowling technique. Whenever you give up 16 sixes, it’s difficult to pull yourself back into the game. I believe there were only five fours, which is also quite impressive,” he said.

I don’t believe there were 190 or more wickets. There was a tonne of moisture there, making playing second advantageous. We will handle every factor that contributed to our defeat, he continued.
Ponting also praised Mark Wood, whose five-wicket haul shattered the Delhi Capitals top order with blistering speed.
“Mark Wood was exceptional. We anticipate him running in, bowling quickly, attacking the wickets, and utilising his bouncers. He acted in that way. He is a top-tier athlete. You will witness more quick periods as the competition goes on and if he remains healthy, according to Ponting.
