US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi “gracious and kind” after the Indian leader met the former’s family and had a “wonderful conversation” with them after the Paris AI Action Summit in the French capital.
“Prime Minister Modi was gracious and kind, and our kids really enjoyed the gifts. I’m grateful to him for the wonderful conversation,” Vance posted on X.
Vance’s post came in response to PM Modi’s earlier post on X, in which the latter recalled the joyous moments as he joined the birthday celebrations of US Vice President’s son Vivek.
“Had a wonderful meeting with US @VP @JDVance and his family. We had a great conversation on various subjects. Delighted to join them in celebrating the joyous birthday of their son, Vivek!” PM Modi wrote on X sharing pictures of him with JD Vance, his wife Usha Vance and their two sons. Vance has three children with Usha- Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.
Earlier, PM Modi met JD Vance and held talks with him on the sidelines of the AI Summit in Paris. This meeting came a day ahead of PM Modi’s two-day visit to the US.
This was PM Modi’s first interaction with a member of the newly-elected Donald Trump administration in India.
PM Modi also congratulated Vance on the Republican Party’s victory in US Presidential elections last year, shaking his hands at the Elysee Palace.
Earlier in the day, Vance addressed the AI Summit right after PM Modi’s speech. Endorsing PM Modi’s view on AI not replacing humans, Vance said that AI will only make human beings more productive rather than replacing them all together.
Addressing fears about job loss due to the advent of AI, PM Modi said, “We need to invest in skilling and re-skilling our people for an AI-driven future,” adding that history has been witness to the fact that “work does not disappear because of technology.”
Echoing PM Modi’s take on AI, Vance said that he “appreciates PM Modi’s point that humans cannot be replaced by AI.”
