The Ministry of Defence has signed an agreement with Godrej for the development of flight control actuators for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme–an ambitious project to develop a fifth-generation stealth, multirole combat aircraft.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), under the Defence Ministry, and the Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company on the sidelines of the ongoing Aero India show in Bengaluru.
The deal includes precision manufacturing, sourcing aerospace-grade raw materials, building and testing assemblies, and developing test rigs for qualification tests for the AMCA programme, along with the manufacturing of flight control actuators.
Flight control actuators are critical components in an aircraft, responsible for moving and controlling its control surfaces, such as ailerons, elevators, and rudders, which, in turn, determine the aircraft’s attitude and flight path.
The government hopes that the new MoU will contribute to achieving the Atmanirbhar Bharat milestone in a key technology essential for combat aircraft.
Building on the success of the LCA Tejas, ADA has now undertaken the development of the LCA AF Mk2, AMCA, and TEDBF programmes with ambitious timelines.
