Authorities sealed the FIITJEE coaching centre in Bhopal on Sunday, following allegations of financial misconduct and fraud. The action was carried out by Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Bairagarh and Sub-Divisional Magistrate of MP Nagar, with assistance from the police. This comes amid the leading JEE coaching institute facing mounting problems after allegations of financial irregularities and FIRs have been filed against it.
Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayan Chari Mishra confirmed that three special teams have been formed to investigate and locate the coaching centre’s owner, who remains at large. Raids are planned on potential hideouts both within and outside the state.
An FIR was registered in December at MP Nagar Police Station against four people, including the coaching centre owner.
Parents alleged that fees ranging from Rs 2 to Rs 6 lakh per student, collected from approximately 700 enrolled students, have not been refunded.
DCP Sanjay Agarwal stated, “Parents are demanding their money back, as their payments are stuck with the coaching centre.”
Adding to the action, Bhopal Collector cancelled the coaching centre’s Gumashta licence. Meanwhile, frustrated parents gathered outside the institute’s premises on Sunday to stage a protest, demanding justice and refunds.
After several closures of centres, FIITJEE on January 26 issued an official statement to provide clarity and address the concerns of students and parents. FIITJEE in an official statement said “We are not involved in the closure of centres and the centre management partners have taken the decision which is temporary”.
