An explosion occurred at a firecracker factory in Kovilpulikuthi, Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu when a blast at a chemical mixing unit destroyed several manufacturing units and injured seven people. A woman named Ramalakshmi died in the accident.
The incident took place at Sathyaprabha Firecracker Manufacturer, owned by Mohanraj, where hundreds of workers are employed in chemical mixing, drying, and packaging. Authorities believe the blast occurred during the preparation of fancy crackers. The shockwave was reportedly felt kilometers away, with several factory units completely flattened.
Seven people, including six women, sustained injuries. They were rushed to the Virudhunagar Government Hospital, where one woman died from the severity of her injuries. The remaining victims are currently receiving medical treatment.
Fire and Rescue teams from Sathur and Sivakasi were quickly dispatched to the scene to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby areas.
The Vachakkarapatti Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the cause of the blast. Authorities are examining the safety protocols in place at the facility to determine the factors that led to the tragedy.
