In an unusual incident from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, a young man claimed to have solemnised his marriage over WhatsApp and is now adamant about living with the girl, despite strong opposition from both families.
The boy and girl, both intermediate students, reportedly exchanged messages on WhatsApp where the boy sent “Kabool hai” (I accept) three times. The girl responded similarly, leading the boy to consider her his wife.
The families, however, have refused to acknowledge the digital union and sought police intervention to make the young couple understand the situation.
The matter came to light when the boy’s family approached the police, expressing concerns over his obsession. According to the boy, he has been in a relationship with the girl for two years.
He claimed that after the message exchange on WhatsApp, she accepted him as her husband, even applying sindoor (vermilion) during their secret meetings. The relationship, however, is complicated by their different community backgrounds.
The situation escalated on Sunday when the boy created a scene at the police station for over two hours, demanding to be allowed to marry his girlfriend at any cost. His family revealed that he had distanced himself from them and was behaving irrationally due to his obsession.
Police summoned the boy to the station, where they found multiple photos and WhatsApp chats with the girl, including the three “Kabool hai” messages.
Despite hours of counselling by the police, the boy remained firm on his decision to be with the girl. The police are now waiting for formal complaints from the families to proceed with any legal action and are trying to mediate between the two sides to defuse the situation.
