Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha condemned the lathi-charge by police on her party workers during a state government event in Telangana’s Jangaon on Sunday, calling it a “inhuman attack” by the cops who were acting as “Congress activists”.
Kavitha also demanded the release of BRS leaders arrested in police action during state Minister of Information and Public Relations, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy’s visit to Jangaon on the occasion of Republic Day.
“I strongly condemn the inhuman attack on BRS activists by the police in Erragunta Thanda, Janagama district. It is a heinous act for the police to behave like Congress activists and beat up BRS activists until they bleed in the name of lathi charge,” Kavitha posted on X in Telugu.
Tensions flared in Errakunta Tanda village of Jangaon district when a scuffle broke out between the Congress and BRS workers after the latter tried to question the Revanth Reddy government on certain promises made by the Congress during the election campaign.
After it escalated into chaos, the police resorted to lathi-chare to bring the situation under control.
“Will the government be lathi-charged if they question the implementation of the promises? BRS activists and leaders cannot be intimidated with arrests and lathicharges,” Kavitha questioned.
“The Congress government has violated the spirit of the Constitution by arresting BRS party MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy on the very day of Republic Day. The abrogation of the freedom of expression enshrined in the Constitution on the very day the Constitution came into force is the culmination of the Congress’s decline,” K Kavitha further pointed out.
“I demand the immediate release of the arrested BRS activists along with the MLA,” K Kavitha said, while also demanding strict action against police personnel who lathi-charge BRS workers in “an arbitrary and inhuman manner”.
