A police sub-inspector in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, died by suicide on Friday morning by shooting himself with his service revolver inside the Tanuku Rural police station. The incident occurred at around 7.45 am, according to West Godavari superintendent of police (SP) Adnan Nayeem Asmi.
“Today morning he committed (suicide) inside the police station. An investigation will be done, based upon that we will come to a conclusion and the reason behind it,” Asmi said.
The deceased officer, identified as AGS Murthy, had recently been placed under vacancy in reserve (VR) due to corruption allegations, and an inquiry was pending against him. He had reportedly come to the police station on Friday morning before taking the extreme step.
Police have begun the process of registering a case over the incident, while further details are awaited.
