In a twist to the recent attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, the father of the accused, Shariful Islam Shehzad, has claimed that the police may have arrested the wrong person. Ruhul Amin, speaking to India Today TV, insisted that the individual seen in the CCTV footage from Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra home does not match his son’s appearance.
According to Amin, the man captured in the footage has unusually long hair, whereas Shariful is known for his short, army-style haircut.
“The person in the footage has very long hair, while his Shariful usually keeps his hair cut short, similar to an Army style,” Amin said.
Shariful, who was arrested in Thane a few days after the incident, is accused of breaking into Saif Ali Khan’s residence in Bandra and stabbing the actor during an attempted burglary. He has been sent to a five-day police remand following his arrest.
Shariful’s father also said that after completing his secondary education, his son started driving a bike-rickshaw to support the family.
The police had earlier claimed that the accused who stabbed Saif Ali Khan was a Bangladeshi national and entered India illegally. India Today obtained documents, including a driving licence corroborating the police’s claim that Shariful is a Bangladeshi national.
