A 55-year-old man died after he came into contact with a high-voltage power wire while climbing atop a goods train at the Rayagada railway station in Odisha on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when the victim, Narasingha Kanda, was returning home from Sikandarpur, where he had been working as a migrant labourer, along with his wife and son. According to sources, Kanda was not in good health and wanted to return home to recover.
Around 10 am, he climbed atop a tanker of a goods train stationed on platform number 5 of the railway station. Despite warnings from bystanders, he raised his arm and accidentally touched an 11 KV live wire, sources said. The electric shock caused severe burns and injuries, resulting in Narasingha falling to the ground beneath the tanker.
Kanda was immediately rushed by the Government Railway Police (GRP) to the Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
The GRP seized Kanda’s mobile phone and contacted his family. His wife and son, who were also accompanying him, were informed about his death.
