Maha Kumbh 2025: Ajay, an avid skating enthusiast, has set out on a 600-kilometre journey from Sakti in Chhattisgarh to Prayagraj entirely on skates
The world’s largest religious gathering, the Maha Kumbh Mela, is underway in Prayagraj, attracting devotees from across the globe. Several sadhus and saints are making their way to the fair from all over the country. Ajay Nishad, a young man from the village of Sakreli in Sakti district of Chhattisgarh, is also embarking on this journey, but in a unique way.
Ajay, an avid skating enthusiast, has set out on a 600-km journey from Sakti to Prayagraj entirely on skates.
Sharing his passion, he said, “I love skating, and wherever I travel, I try to do so on skates. This time, I’m skating my way to the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.” Covering 80-100km a day, Ajay rests in hotels or lodges each evening.
This is Ajay’s first time undertaking such a lengthy journey. He noted that poor road conditions in some areas make skating challenging, forcing him to either walk or hitch a ride. Carrying a bag weighing 20 to 25 kg and a saffron flag that waves as he skates, Ajay is determined to complete his journey.
Previously, Ajay has skated to well-known temples near Sakti, including Turridham, Madwarani, Chandrapur, and Pithampur, covering distances of 50 to 100 km. However, this 600-kilometre trip marks his longest journey yet.
Along the way, Ajay has encountered many kind-hearted individuals who have offered him financial assistance and meals, inspiring him to continue his unique pilgrimage to the Maha Kumbh.
ore than 7 crore devotees, Kalpavasis and revered seers have taken a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam during the Maha Kumbh so far. The Uttar Pradesh government estimates that more than 45 crore people will attend the Maha Kumbh this time.
