Markram is presently in South Africa for a 2-match ODI series against the Netherlands, which might have a significant impact on their ability to qualify for the following ODI World Cup in 2023. Markram will arrive in India on April 3, following Hyderabad’s opening game against the Rajasthan Royals on April 2.
Bhuvneshwar has previous experience as a team captain, having led the team for six matches in 2019 and once in 2022.
After helping the Sunrisers Eastern Cape club, which is owned by the Sun Group, win the first SA20 championship, the 28-year-old Markram pushed his claim. In the competition, he amassed 336 runs, including a century in the semifinal, and claimed 11 wickets. The Proteas all-rounder had an outstanding IPL season last year, scoring 381 runs at an average of 47.63, a strike rate of over 139, and three half-centuries.
Markram had given a positive response when asked if he would be open to captaining the team in the prestigious IPL. To be honest, Markram had stated before the SA20, “What’s going to happen… either way, we back the management’s decision about who they want in charge.”
